📣 Campaign Update — Week 2! 🗳️

👋 Hi folks!

I hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving weekend and had a chance to enjoy a nice meal and some fellowship with family and friends! 🦃❤️Another week of the municipal election campaign is in the books, and there’s plenty to share! 😊

✅ Officially Registered!

I’ve officially registered with Elections PEI as a candidate in the upcoming municipal election! 🗳️ It’s exciting to make things official as we head into the final stretch of the campaign.

🚪 Back Out on the Doors!

I continued canvassing neighbourhoods throughout Cornwall, meeting residents, hearing their concerns, and discussing the issues that matter most to our community. I also had the opportunity to connect with fellow candidates along the campaign trail. I enjoy our conversations so much, along with all of the amazing hospitality that has been offered to me!  I’m certainly not missing any meals during this campaign!  It’s great to see so many people getting involved in local democracy! 🤝

🏢📈 What I’m Hearing Around Cornwall

Economic development continues to be a recurring priority in my conversations with residents. People want to see more commercial options within Cornwall, and I believe this deserves continued attention.

Other topics coming up in conversations include:

📱 Cellular Coverage — Improving coverage and connectivity in our community.

🌊 Coastal Development & Erosion — Balancing development with the protection and long-term sustainability of our coastal areas.

This past week, fellow Councillor Steven Campbell and I toured parts of Cornwall’s coastline and the West River to observe some of the coastal erosion taking place. 🌊 The Town is rapidly losing precious land along our coast, and I believe the next Council needs to develop a plan to address coastal erosion and protect these valuable areas for the future.

🚦 Traffic Safety — Making our roads and neighbourhoods safer for residents, pedestrians, and families.

It’s also been encouraging to hear residents speak positively about Council’s enhancements in transit, parks, and support for the recently announced long-term care facility. These opportunities have come up several times in my conversations, and residents have expressed support for Council’s investments in these areas. 👍 I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to share their thoughts, concerns, and ideas with me. Listening to residents is one of the most important parts of this job! ❤️

💪 A Huge Shout-Out to the Campaign Team!

A big thank-you to everyone who has helped out and supported the campaign so far! 🙏 This is truly a team effort.

Cornwall’s open-ward system means candidates are campaigning across the entire town, with approximately 4,000 doors to knock on. That’s a lot of ground to cover, and I couldn’t do it without the help and encouragement of so many people. Every bit of support makes a difference!

We also got all of our 8×4 and 4×4 election signs installed, along with most of the 2×2 lawn signs! 🪧

A special thanks to everyone who has helped fix up the wire stands on the lawn signs. Those stands have been a bit of a challenge — apparently, they’re no match for an Island wind! 🌬️😂 A lesson for future elections: wooden stakes might be the way to go!

🗓️ Looking Ahead

🗳️ First Advance Poll

The first advance poll is scheduled for Saturday, October 24th, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the APM Centre. Mark your calendars!

🏛️ Council Work Continues!

While many of us are in campaign mode, the work of Council continues! The Municipal & Emergency Services (MES) Committee, which I chair, meets this Thursday, October 15th, at 4:30 p.m.  Items on the agenda include guest presentations from our By-law Enforcement Officer and a T3 Transit operator, along with departmental reports from:

🚒 North River Fire Department (NRFD)
🚔 RCMP
🚌 T3 Transit
📋 By-law Enforcement
🐾 Animal Control

We’ll also be discussing transit shelter placement.

Public service doesn’t stop during an election campaign, and there’s still important work to do!  Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to talk with me, offered encouragement, helped with signs, or volunteered their time. Your support means a lot to my family and me. ❤️🙏

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend, and all the best in the week ahead!

Together for Cornwall! 🤝💙
